Vandiver Consulting LLC - for the most part, retired
My name is Steve Vandiver and I am a retired Information Technology System Administrator and Network Engineer. After several years of electronics and computer work, I decided to get off the corporate dreadmill and work on some projects that I find interesting, one of which is a practical
off grid solar system for a small farm project in southwest Missouri we call The Shire, which supports a garden, apiary, and vineyard.
Shirefest, an annual family and friends fall festival, occurs at this location also.
My original surname spelling was Van Der Veer, meaning as being from Veere, Zeeland, The Netherlands. The surname was adopted by my 9th great grandfather, Cornelius Jans Van Der Veer, sometimes known as Cornelius De Zeeuw, who came to America in 1659, settling in Midwout, New Amsterdam, now Flatbush, Long Island, New York.
He was hired as a contract farmer for the West Indies Company and remained after the English took possession in 1664 and renamed New Amsterdam to New York. He acquired approximately 200+ acres of land located just east of today's Brooklyn College and the last of that property was sold off in 1906 by Dr John C Vanderveer. Several of his descendants became large land owners on Long Island and the Vanderveer name can still be found associated with various streets and structures.
I have been conducting genealogy research for some years now and have accumulated a fairly sizeable database
that contains information about my family and other familes of interest to me. For privacy purposes, I do not normally post information dated after 1900,
please contact me directly for information after that date. Feel free to browse the database and contact me if you have questions or would like to contribute to it.
My hosting provider earlier this year, sold out to another company and pretty much hosed things up with the transition. I'm running in-house on my Mac Mini, so bear with me while I get the bugs worked out, some links may be broken.
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
